Teenage Body Builder Dies As His Heart Explodes Due To Steroid Abuse

In pursuit of the “perfect body”, there are many stories - whether it’s botched surgery, or dangerous diest or pills- where people have taken a wrong turn to achieve it and things have gone horribly wrong for them.

In this case, it was dodgy steroids. 19-year-old, Andrej Gardos, had hopes of becoming the next Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and so worked out twice a day and frequently took steroids that turned him into a 7ft 2ins and 19-stone giant of a man.

He died instantly after his thoracic aorta ruptured outside the Tesco in Western-super-Mare.

Doctors said that his heart weighed 680g during the post-mortem. The heart or a normal man weighs somewhere between 400g and 500g.

“Andrej’s heart weighed 680g, and a normal heart is between 400 and 500g. He wasn’t a normal man. Steroids would have enlarged his heart, and having a big heart predisposes thoracic rupture.”

Said Dr John Oxley.

Devastated, his family said:

“He was loved and known by many people, each with their own story to tell. Andrej was a very keen bodybuilder with aspirations to become the new Rock… he will never reach that height now.”

He had previously been diagnosed with lung problems and he was believed to have acromegaly according to his GP, a disorder caused by excess growth hormone production.

It’s a horrible story and one that reminds us of the dangers of steroid abuse. We wish Andrej’s family the best during their time of mourning.
