Read The Touching Tribute Letter That Eminem Wrote To Tupac’s Mother

In his short, 25 year life, Tupac Shakur influenced and inspired many people, and today, on the 20th anniversary of his untimely death, it seems appropriate to remember just quite how far his legacy continued.

Famously a Tupac fan, you may remember that Eminem once wrote a heartfelt letter to the rap legend’s mother, explaining just how much her son influenced him.

Telling Afeni Shakur, “you have no idea how much your son and his music has inspired [me]”, the Stan rapper wrote:

“When I was feeling at my ‘worst’ (before fame, before Dre), I knew I could put that ‘Tupac’ tape in and, suddenly, things weren’t so bad. He gave me the courage to stand up and say, ‘Fuck the world! This is who I am! And if you don’t like it, go fuck yourself.”

The letter (which you can read in full below) is on display at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, alongside a sketch that Eminem made of his hero:

Tupac was shot after attending a Mike Tyson boxing match in Las Vegas, on the 7th September, 1996. He died in hospital six days later, twenty years ago today.
