Louis Theroux’s ‘My Scientology Movie’ Just Got A Brand New Trailer
We’ve been looking forward to Louis Theroux’s My Scientology Movie since the first clip dropped (almost a year ago now), and this recently released trailer has only given us more reason to get excited.
Not only does it promise that this Scientology Movie is hilarious as well as (obviously) fascinating, but it goes into a bit more detail when it comes to the overall narrative - we see Louis trying and failing to get access to The Church of Scientology, before recruiting Marty Rathburn (the Church’s former Inspector General) to give some insight.
Not allowed access to the Church’s inner workings, Louis has also included dramatic reconstructions - primarily of the recruitment processes and of the alleged violent behaviour of Scientologist officials - in his latest film, and we get our first glimpse of them in this trailer.
As Theroux explained to NME, “I’d seen an explanation of why people wanted to leave Scientology, but I hadn’t got a sense of why they joined”:
“I was interested in the seduction, why they would go along with the various practices that had been alleged for years, if not decades. [The film is] an attempt to create that mindset of being conditioned in behaviours outside of the norm.”

Hitting UK screens on the 7th October, My Scientology Movie is looking like it might be one of Theroux’s best documentaries yet…
Louis Theroux also has another film - his second project about Jimmy Saville - coming out later this year.
