Two Team GB Divers Think They’ve Cracked The Mystery Of The Green Pool
You’ve definitely heard about the recent Olympic talking point, the Mysterious Case Of The Green Diving Pool. Yeah, we’re working on a film adaptation.
The oddly luminescent shade of the diving pool was brought to our attention by British diver Tom Daley and has been the talk of the town ever since.

There were two main theories, one being that the pool had not been chlorinated sufficiently and so became a breeding ground for algae, and the other was that somehow loads of people peed in there and turned it green.
Both not particularly nice to think about.
But Team GB gold medal winners Jack Laugher and Chris Mears told 5 Live their theory about the swamp-like waters, and admittedly we’re inclined to agree with them.

Having actually been in the pool, they think it’s ink from the boards surrounding the pool that have seeped into the water and turned it such a mysterious shade of green. The fact that the boards in question and the water are a very similar shade of Shrek green definitely helps their theory.
They explained that the boards are blue underwater but green above, suggesting the green ink has done a runner. Olympic officials have tested the waters and declared it completely safe for competitors.
You can see what they mean in this picture of their winning dive:
