People Have A Hilarious Theory About Why Louis Smith Lost His Balance Last Night
Team GB only just missed out on a medal during the men’s gymnastic team finals, finding themselves in the frustrating position of fourth place.
It was a tough competition, and gymnasts Max Whitlock, Louis Smith, Kristian Thomas, Nile Wilson and Brinn Bevan finished just two points outside of the top three.
Many have attributed this loss to Louis Smith’s untimely fall from the pommel horse in the penultimate event. Smith has been a strong British gymnast for ten years now, and people were surprised to see him make an error. Some put it down to the nerves of going last, but the people of Twitter have an entirely different theory:
The man bun.
Yes, seriously:
@louissmith1989 it was because of the man bun

Can't help but feel Louis Smith would have done better if he didn't have that daft manbun throwing off his centre of gravity 🤔 #gymnastics

I blame Louis Smith's man bun for Team GB's Mens Gymnastics mishap. #NoManBun #Rio2016 pic.twitter.com/h71yWFAkTZ

I think Louis Smith's stupid hair sent him off balance!! #gymnastics #Rio2016

Crikey, I’m sure Smith is feeling terrible enough as it is without people being mean about his new do.
Lots of more rational people are coming to his defence, saying that even he had nailed his entire routine - the score wouldn’t have been high enough to get GB the bronze medal.
Why is every1 giving #LouisSmith such a hard time?! He did his best & even without coming off, score wouldn't have been high enough for 3rd!

Really feel for Louis Smith. Should not be blamed - the face of gymnastics in UK and inspiration for kids - that's just how sport goes.
