Sanitary Towel Ad Uses ‘Real Blood Instead Of Blue Liquid’ And People Love It
Since pretty much ever, ads for period products have used a weird blue liquid to prove their effectiveness. Except, as many people have pointed out, they’re supposed to be effective at soaking up blood - not mouthwash.
Sanitary product creators BodyForm are calling us out for this weird practice in their new ad with the sentiment ‘women bleed all the time, but it doesn’t hold them back. Why should periods be any different?’
Great question, Bodyform.
Here’s the ad:
Women bleed in sport all the time, but it doesn’t hold them back. Why should periods be any different?https://t.co/FaBPEv1izl

The campaign has a great and very valid point, why are we so shy to talk about periods? We’re all adults here, right? Except for the kids, and if we teach them it’s no biggie they wouldn’t have a problem with it either.
Lot’s of people are praising the ad, including Comedian Sarah Millican:
BLOODY YES! Well done @bodyform. And excellent work @MsAshleyDavies https://t.co/Z4MMs0t6h3 @StandardIssueUK

Ha! Is this first sanitary towel ad that won't make women panic when their blood isn't in a test tube and blue? ??? https://t.co/F8Tl9W40RW

And despite it being actually pretty subtle, and not actually of any actual real menstrual blood (heaven forbid), there were still a few who didn’t like the advert:
@bodyform This advert will now be very uncomfortable viewing at dinner time for both men&women. The world doesn't need to be forced to see it
