‘Stranger Things’ Creators Reveal Key Season Two Details
Discussing the return of their hit Netflix show, The Duffer Brothers have revealed what we can expect from season two of Stranger Things.
And it’s pretty much all good news…
First off, they’ve confirmed that more or less the whole cast - with a few exceptions - will be back to reprise their roles.
Explaining that they had initially thought of setting a second season years later, when the kids were much older, the Duffer Brothers eventually decided to stay in the 1980s: “there’s still more story here, there’s still things that are unresolved”.
This means - in all likelihood - that we’ll be revisiting Mike, Dustin and Lucas, checking in on a post-Upside Down Will, and seeing how things went for Steve, Nancy and Jonathan. The one character still “up in the air” is Eleven, but in all honesty we’d be surprised (and saddened) if she didn’t show back up…
The Duffer Brothers also revealed that there’ll be four new key characters….
In terms of setting, season two will apparently venture outside Hawkins - with the opening scene of the premiere promised to take place elsewhere - but the Duffers are keen to explore the Upside Down in a lot more detail:
“We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there? We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved.”
The Stranger Things creators revealed that just as they modelled season one around a movie, their inspiration for season two is a big blockbuster sequel: “I know movie sequels get a lot of shit, but the ones we look up to aspire to pivot and do something different. There’s Temple of Doom, Aliens, Terminator 2. I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he’s brilliant. And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original.”
That sounds pretty promising to us…
