Sainsbury’s Have Changed The £3 Meal Deal And People Are Outraged

If you get your lunch from Sainsbury’s, then we’ve got some bad news for you. The popular (and posh) supermarket has updated its meal deal deal, and by “updated”, we mean “ruined”…

They’ve decimated the number of sandwiches available under the deal, meaning if you want to “taste the difference”, you’ll have to pay full price. And if that wasn’t bad enough, all of our other favourites - including the faithful chicken triple and the ham hock and extra mature cheddar - have pretty much been taken out as well. All that’s left are the basics, like “cheese and tomato”, or “egg mayo”.

The horror.

Upon discovering these cruel changes, people have been pretty outraged:

Oh @sainsburys what have you gone and done? #MealDeal now only includes bog standard sandwiches. Seriously not worth bothering with.

So @sainsburys have decimated the £3 Meal Deal. No Taste The Difference, no baguettes/subs, no wraps & not a single sandwich with salad in!

Going to be honest, pretty torn up about Sainsbury's #MealDeal cutbacks. Gunna have to walk the extra 200m to the Tesco now.

@sainsburys Why did you downgrade your meal deal? Who hurt you?

— Ruth Cox (@TheGOSM) September 6, 2016

Best thing about @sainsburys meal deals was Taste the Difference sandwiches were included. Now the options are limited to spam and pilchards

So gutted I can't have my lunch at @sainsburys anymore… Give me Taste the Difference sandwiches or give me death😷😷

RIP French Brie and grape

To add insult to injury, Sainsbury’s have removed the folding forks and spoons from their pasta pots…

In a statement made to the Metro, a representative from Sainsbury’s said of the changes:

“We have invested millions of pounds improving the quality and value of our sandwich range’ said a Sainsbury’s representative. Customers can still enjoy our great value £3 Meal Deal and the sandwiches in the Deal are now better quality and better value.

Where sandwiches are no longer in the Meal Deal, we have improved the taste and reduced the price.

So for example a Taste the Difference prawn and rocket sandwich priced at £3.00 has been replaced with a crayfish and rocket sandwich priced at £2.50.

Our new On the Go range also includes a much wider ranges of sandwiches, salads and sushi than it did before.

We think that, once customers try the new range, they will like it.”

We’ll see, Sainsbury’s, but we’re not feeling optimistic…
