Margot Robbie Is Set To Get Her Own Solo Harley Quinn Film
Whether or not you liked Suicide Squad, you can’t deny that it caused more than a few ripples in the world of film as its buildup promised so much and the film itself divided opinion like nobody’s business.
Basically, the general consensus with the film was that there was a lot wrong with it. Too much generic CGI, not enough character development, a rushed plot and bits that didn’t make any sense - like the bit where Captain Boomerang quit and then, literally four minutes later, joined the team again with no explanation.
But anyway, whilst there were problems, the film wasn’t without its high-points. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, for example. As a character, I’m not a huge fan but I do get that Robbie played her well (although I am starting to wonder whether she can only do one American accent..?)
Here’s some good news if you were a fan of the princess of crime (if that’s what they call her), she’s lining up for her own solo film! She’s signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. that includes a solo film for her to star in.
This will be DC and Warner Bros. second female-led superhero film after Wonder Woman, which comes out next year.
No director is attached to the Harley Quinn film as of yet and it’s unsure whether or not Jared Leto will reprise his role for another supporting character. You can only imagine the mad shit he’d get up to on set if he did, though.
I suppose one of my main problems with Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad is that she’s recruited on the pretence that, if Superman were to turn evil and start killing everyone, she, and several others, could stop him. The thing is though, Harley Quinn is NOT a meta-human as Amanda Waller consistently implies. She is, in fact, a very unstable woman who’s easily influenced by an even more unstable man and who also has access to a larger-than-usual hammer and a sparkly revolver. Not the kind of person that could kill Superman.
Robbie will co-produce and develop the film with her own entertainment label, LuckyChap.
What do you think? Excited for this or do you think DC should focus on a different character (Poison Ivy, perhaps)? Let us know in the comments!
