George R.R. Martin Just Hinted At A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel
Game of Thrones might be drawing to an end, but George R.R. Martin isn’t done with the world of Westeros just yet.
The prolific author has discussed the possibility of writing a prequel series, saying at last night’s Emmys that, “I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there’s a lot of material there and I’m writing more.”
While for now, he’s reassured fans that his priority is finishing the GOT series, and not embarking on a new project (“at the moment we still have this show to finish, and I still have two books to finish so that’s all speculation”), we’d be surprised if Martin is content with putting his feet up and watching the royalties roll in once Game of Thrones is done and dusted.
We can’t help but think it more likely that he’ll pen a prequel series (that HBO will no doubt snap up as well) that focuses on some of the past events already touched on in A Song of Ice and Fire.
Martin has already written short novellas about “Egg and Dunk” (the future king Aegon V Targaryen, and Ser Duncan the Tall - an ancestor of Brienne of Tarth), and for his next prequel project, we’re hoping that he’ll focus more on what happened during the reign of the Mad King.
