France Is Using 3D-Printed Clitoris’ To Teach Kids About Sex

I saw the picture of the 3D-printed clitoris before I knew what this story was going to be about and, I’ll be honest with you, I thought “Oh christ what’s that?!”

I thought I was about to read about some weird alien-monster found in a lake in Utah or something. Looks like I could have done with some French sex-ed classes…

In my defence, most of the parts are inside women so there’s that, right?

So anyway, sex-education classes worldwide are still pretty reserved and backwards, even though sex has become more and more okay with people, in general, every day. Many US schools still choose to teach abstinence over actual sex and, in France, while boys are mainly taught about ‘genital sexuality’, girl’s classes focus more on the ‘importance of love’.

With that in mind, Paris-based researcher Odile Fillod, is trying to teach to youth of France about sexuality and female anatomy with the help of 3D-printed clitoris’.

Speaking to the Guardian, she said:

“It’s important that women have a mental image of what is actually happening in their body when they’re stimulated. In understanding the key role of the clitoris, a woman can stop feeling shame, or [that she’s] abnormal if penile-vaginal intercourse doesn’t do the trick for her – given the anatomical data, that is the case for most women.”

Now, with Fillod’s generosity, schools can and will print out their own models of her design free of charge (and so can you if you want… for whatever reason). French schools will begin to roll out the plastic clitoris’s (… plasclits?) in primary and secondary schools come September.
