Crazy Fan Theory Explains A Totally Different Way That Harry Potter Could Have Survived
There are two kinds of people in the world, those of us who take things as they come, and those of us who question everything and come up with fan theories.
Reddit user and Harry Potter fan WippitGuud is definitely one of the latter, as he has taken to the subreddit r/FanTheories to share his conclusions about how the final horcrux was destroyed.
Dumbledore tells Harry that his mother’s protection kept him from dying when he went up against Voldemort in the last book, but WippitGuud thinks good ol’ Dumbly was being a bit sneaky, and that Harry did actually die.
He initially lists three important points:
- When Harry was hit by the killing curse as a baby, it rebounded and killed Voldemort, necessitating that he create a new body. This did not happen the second time.
- When Harry was hit by the killing curse as a baby, it left a visible mark. This did not happen the second time.
- To destroy a Horcrux, the container must be destroyed.
So, basically, Harry must have died to destroy the horcrux within him- and if Lily’s protection had kicked in, he would have survived, along with that last piece of Voldemort’s soul.

And a secondary piece of evidence that proves he must have died, is the fact that he sacrificed himself selflessly - causing the people of Hogwarts to have the same protection his mother bestowed upon him as a baby.
He says “”I’ve done what my mother did. Haven’t you noticed how none of the spells you put on them are binding? You can’t torture them. You can’t touch them.”
But to have actually affected the entirety of Hogwarts, Harry had to have died. But, how did he come back?
WippitGuud suggests that Harry became the Master of the Hallows. He had the cloak and the stone, and was still the master of the Elder Wand despite it not being in his possession. If Harry had fought back against Voldemort, and against the Wand, its allegiance would have changed and he would have died and not come back. But because he remained the master of all three of the Deathly Hallows, when he found himself dead and talking to Dumbledore, he had the choice to come back.
And the reason Dumbledore lied to him about it was probably because people tend to go a little bit power crazy when they become the Master of the Hallows. And also because he was a wily bastard, even after his death.
This just goes to prove that no matter how old you get, or how many times you read the books, there’s so much more to them than it seems.
