Anonymous Hacker Who Exposed Rape Cover-Up Faces More Jail Time Than The Rapists
Back in 2013, a rape cover-up in Steubenville, Ohio was exposed by a group of hackers from the “hacktivist” group, Anonymous and, despite all the good that they did, one of the vigilantes involved, Deric Lostutter, is potentially facing a longer prison sentence than that of the rapists involved.
Lostutter has pleaded not-guilty to four felony counts of hacking and, if he is found guilty, he could face up to 16 years in prison. Meanwhile, Ma’lik Richmond and Trent Mays (the rapists) were given a minimum sentence and had less than one year and two years respectively in juvenile detention.
The case gained national attention when Anonymous leaked footage taken by the then 16-year-old rapists of them performing the act on an incapacitated girl. The boys were both in the school football team and it was later discovered that members of the high-school staff had helped cover up the crime.

Three years later, Lostutter, the self-confessed anti-rape activist, faces charged from the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Kentucky. He told Mic. that be believes he’s being prosecuted for exposing rape culture:
“They want to make an example out of me. For exposing a cover-up.“

Lostutter hacked into RollRedRoll.com, a local football fan site that held images of the rape cover-up - this is what he faces charges from. Another hacker involved in the exposé, Noah McHugh, was similarly charged and pleaded guilty last week.
Lostutter is also known for going after revenge porn sites as well the Westboro Baptist Church. His trial begins on 8th November.
Here’s to hoping justice is served and Deric Lostutter is applauded for the good that he’s done.
