Zendaya’s Role In Spider-Man Homecoming Has Been Revealed And It’s A Big One
Every day the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming gets bigger and every day everyone tries to guess who each actor is playing and every day they’re either wrong or left hanging.
But we’ve finally found out who one of the younger cast members is playing. Actress, singer and dancer, Zendaya, was announced as a cast member way back when and, since then, speculation has flown around life, right and centre like a crackhead Spidey looking for his next fix.
People started deducing that she would play Mary Jane Watson after a clip of her and Tom Holland talking was released at a comic-con but the director, Jon Watts, tried to throw people off the mark by claiming she was playing a character called Michelle.
However it has recently come to light that Zendaya’s character will, in fact, be involved in a twist towards the end of the film where she’s asked “what do I call you?” to which she replies “call me M.J.”. Oooooohhhhh.
M.J. was previously played by Kirsten Dunst who definitely did the character justice so Zendaya’s got some big shoes to fill.
The fact that they’ve gone for Mary Jane over Gwen Stacey is a bit of a shocker. I suppose they wanted to distance themselves from the Amazing Spider-Man films with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Also, if the rumours are true, Marvel want this era of Spider-Man to be a long running one and, since there’s more mileage (timeline wise) to be had out of Mary-Jane, maybe it makes sense to go for M.J?
On a separate note, comedian Martha Kelly has joined the cast for an unknown role.
As people have it, the script (written by John Francis Daley, Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Chirs McKenna and Erik Sommers) will focus more on Peter Parker being in high school and dealing with that rather than the whole superhero thing… interesting choice?
