Wingsuit Pilot Dies During ‘Facebook Live’ When Stunt Goes Horribly Wrong
28-year-old skydiver Armin Schmieder has tragically died as a result of one of his stunts going wrong.
Performing a jump in the French Alps, Armin was using a wing-suit (pictured below), and had decided to live stream, telling his Facebook fans, “today you fly with me”.
iStockThe live video showed him prepare for the jump, put his phone in his pocket, and take off. Shortly afterwards, the image went black, and a shout was heard. Viewers quickly realised that something had gone wrong, with one begging Armin to “write or say something”, and when he didn’t respond, someone contacted the police.
Emergency services later confirmed that they found Armin’s body.
It hasn’t yet been established whether this tragic accident was the result of the wing suit malfunctioning, or a case of human error. As a friend told Swiss newspaper Blick, Armin was an experienced skydiver, and had been using wingsuits for at least a year.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
