College Professor Shuts Down Homophobic Student With One Tweet

A Twitter exchange between college professor Eric Mendenhall and one of his students has gone viral, owing to the alacrity with which Eric shut down said student’s homophobic slur against him.

Garrett had tweeted that his genetics teacher (Eric) was a faggot, and Eric had a quick and concise response:

Posting a screenshot of the original tweet, Eric explained that he had only seen it because the student followed him moments before.

He also defended his decision to publicly respond to the tweet, instead of dealing with it in a private context:

When somebody pointed out that Garrett’s parents might be to blame for his intolerance - that it might be an issue with his “genetics” - Eric had an pretty perfect retort:

He’s also taken the time to point out that this was an isolated incident, and that most of the students he has taught have been lovely:
