Are You Ready For Netflix’s Most Expensive Original Series Yet?

Netflix rarely has a miss when it comes to their original TV series: Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Making a Murderer and (more recently) Stranger Things have all been huge successes, and with their latest, it looks like they’re about to hit it out of the park again.

The Get Down - created by Baz Luhrman (Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet, The Great Gatsby) and executive produced by Nas - looks at the last days of disco in 1970s New York (more specifically, the Bronx).

It sees up-and-coming MC Zeke fall in love with a pastor’s daughter (Mylene) who herself only wants to be a disco singer.

It’s the most expensive series that the streaming service has ever produced, coming in at $120m (£91m) for the 12 episodes. (That’s almost Game of Thrones prices).

Check out the trailer here:

Starring Shameik Moore, Justice Smith and Herizen F. Guardiola, it also sees Jaden Smith make a return to TV.

The Get Down hits Netflix on the 12th August.
