This Dad’s Creative Punishment For His Disrespectful Son Has Gone Viral

Parenting is a tough one. You create your own human, you love it, care for it, but then you have to… you know, discipline it. And hope that it grows up to be a decent human.

At least, that’s what parenting seems like to me. I am notoriously childless so I wouldn’t claim to be an expert on the matter or anything.

If there’s one thing that parenting can tend to be, it’s controversial. Some people think you should just let babies cry themselves out, other believe you should cuddle them until they hit the teen years.

And then there’s this guy, who sold his sons car because he became disrespectful and well… a little reliant on the green stuff.

Allan Gieger Jr. was tired of seeing his son, Allan Gieger III, smoking weed, disrespecting him and his mother and ‘acting all thug’.

He didn’t wait around for his son to throw a tantrum, as the Florida based dad sold the car in just two hours. Swift.

When speaking to CNN, he said:

“I’ve been having some issues with my son over the past year. I don’t want to see him struggle the way I did.”

Gieger Jr. also offered any buyer in the local area $250 off of the car, so that the car would stay local and his son would see the car driving around and remember ‘how good he had it’. He’s getting pretty creative with this one.

This kind of tough love parenting often causes controversy, but according to the reactions this guy is getting it seems he got it spot on.

Though, technically the judge of that will be whether the son gets his act together.

For those of you who feel a little outrage bubbling, Gieger Jr. was keen to point out that the ’98 Ford Explorer was bought by him for his son’s 16th birthday for him to “finish school in, get a decent job and get a head start on life”, but the boy has allegedly chosen to cruise around in the vehicle getting happy.

“Like every parent, we went through every avenue. We tried talking to him,” Gieger Jr. added. “I was tired of being embarrassed.”

The full craiglist ad reads:

“I have my sons truck up for sale that I bought for him as his first car, he thinks it’s cool to drive around with his friends smokin dope and acting all thug and especially not showing me and my wife the respect that we deserve. This was a vehicle to finish school in, get a decent job and get a head start on life but chose to throw it all away because his friends would rather have an influence on him more than me! Now he can put those Jordans to use walk his ass off on these hot summer days! It has ice cold air and power everything! It’s dirty as hell inside and out because he didn’t respect it and take pride, seems to drive well but needs a few parts because it squeaks! I just put new tires on it that he never paid me for because dope was more important and driver seat doesn’t come all the way up, I guess cause cops kept riding by! If you live on the WESTSIDE I’ll take $250 off the price just so he sees it every now and then so it’ll remind him of how good he had it! I have title in hand!”

Yikes.

Well, this is the internet, which means you definitely have an opinion and you’re probably going to share it - so let us know what you think in the comments. Good or bad parenting?
