Daniel Radcliffe’s Reason For Not Attending ‘The Cursed Child’ Premiere Is Very Humble
Think Harry Potter and you see Daniel Radcliffe. Think Daniel Radcliffe and you see Harry Potter. It’s a vicious cycle that can’t be broken until some time in half a century when the powers that be decide to remake Harry Potter with new actors.
So it may come as a bit of a surprise to hear that Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, has chosen not to attend the Cursed Child theatre premier in London.
You may think that this is because he’s fed up with being seen as just that one role and that he’s cut himself off from the franchise but, as he has it, his reason is a lot more humble than that.
He’s chosen to give the premier a miss because he doesn’t want to detract from the spectacle before everyone. Talking to E! he said this…
“It would be a weird one. I could be completely wrong in this, but I feel like if I went to see it that night, there’s going to be a lot of Harry Potter fans there in the audience obviously and would that then become a thing? Would it be more about them watching me watch the show or would it take away from the show?
I would never want to do anything that would distract or take away from the show. I don’t know. I’m busy doing a play here at the moment, but I’m not sure.”
You can see where he’s coming from. Everyone would be all like “What did you think of the new Harry, Daniel?” and they’d all be staring at him as he watched it so, in a way, it’s nice that he’s missing it.
Do you think he made the right choice? Let us know in the comments!
